Week One (intro)
Week One:
The Bahamas
The Bahamas is a group of 700 islands and islets located in the Atlantic Ocean around 180 miles off the coast of Miami, Florida. It has a primarily flat landscape with hills and stunning views of the ocean. The government system is a constitutional parliamentary democracy. The chief of state is the king of the United Kingdom, and the head of government is the prime minister. The population of the Bahamas is around 408,000.
While being a beautiful country, The Bahamas has plenty of natural hazards, disasters, and catastrophes. Some of these events include tropical storms, hurricanes, tornados, and droughts. A natural hazard is an event that has the potential to be a serious threat depending on the severity of the event. Natural Disasters happen across the globe that are uncontrollable and cause major losses across the country. Catastrophes are the worst in terms of damage and death tolls as the biggest and baddest natural events that happen to a country.
